What has no owner in your organization — and can cost you your growth?
Value creation is a team sport. And while the teams themselves are clearly defined — their outcomes and outputs each have an owner — the collaboration between them isn't. And the value left on the table at every handoff can be dramatic.
Having spent almost four years at Showpad after our acquisition, I can vouch for the value of Marketing-Sales alignment. SiriusDecisions research (now Forrester) shows that B2B organizations with tightly aligned Sales and Marketing teams post 24% faster three-year revenue growth, and 27% faster profit growth. That is not nothing. And if you walk up the value path a bit further, you quickly find yourself in Support, Product, Design and Tech territory.
Now add AI to the equation. AI 10x's your strengths — but your weaknesses too. Your specs, your code, your campaigns: AI can accelerate it all, because all of it is owned and codified. The handoffs between your teams, however — no owner, no codification — can quickly erase your productivity gains: AI accelerates every team, but not the collaboration between them, and the gap widens with every sprint.
Every delivery between teams is a real risk of losing the why, the who, or the how — and of breaking the logical chain Persona → Problem → Benefit → Solution → Feature.
When your teams share a strategy to protect your value path, the chances that your investment comes out the other side as pipeline, conversion, or retention increase drastically.
When handoffs are chaotic, the value delivered by each team is partially — if not mostly — lost.
And here's the dangerous part: without clear ownership or strategy, the value created by each team can vanish completely unnoticed. Nothing spectacular happens. No alarm goes off. Everyone keeps shipping — each with a degraded version of what they were handed.
When did you last bring these teams into the same room? How many rituals do they share? Are your team-to-team deliveries smooth or hairy? Do these teams share a methodology?
That's the work I do with CEOs, CTOs, CPOs, COOs and their teams: encoding the handoffs — what must travel, from whom to whom, in what form — and turning your AI from six separate accelerators into the guardian of your value path.
If this resonates, let's talk! My schedule is opening up.
